EeePC 1005PR Can't start X Server.

Hello everyone,

I'm new here and I am trying to configure backtrack 4 final on my new netbook for my college class hack attack and traceback. The netbook is an ASUS EeePC 1005PR. I have a question about an issue I'm having with the startx command. Every time I try to boot into the GUI I get and error. In my normal NIX class that wouldn't be a problem but I need the capability of opening multiple shell windows.

Here's the error i'm getting:

process set to priority -1 instead of requested priority 0
(EE)VESA(0): No Valid Modes
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a useable configuration
Fatal server error:
no screens found
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

I'm thinking there's an issue with my graphics card or lack there of. But I'm not experienced enough with NIX to know for sure or how to fix it if it can be configured to boot into the GUI. I believe this comp has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150. It also has a Broadcom HD acclerator but I really doubt that this has anything to do with that!

Any help would be much appricated. I asked my teacher about the issue but he said he's not a NIX expert. HAHA and he's teaching a class based on NIX!

By the way I'm running it persistent off of a SDHC card, but I also tried it on my high speed flash drive.

it seems to me it can't find graphic card, it's mostly to be misconfiguration or absent driver.

Thank you for the reply. Do you know if there's any way to fix this issue or am I just stuck? Is there drivers out there for my media accelerator? I did some googling and couldn't find anything. I imagine that's what it's trying to access but can't find the driver I guess? Wish I knew more about NIX but I'm slowly learning.

Well the thing is I haven't configured anything in the backtrack OS. The first boot came up with this error. I have tried it persistent and non persistent and neither work. Both come up with exactially the same error, no matter which resolution I try. Funny though that it is able to show the screen box around the shell prompt at the highest resolution. Guess it needs a driver or some configuration done.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

By the way I was looking at your signture.
What does JWRTFM stand for? Can't figure it out.

Easy fix

Just in case you haven't had any luck yet with your issue. I had the same problem with my netbook. At the command line just type fixvesa and then after it updates try startx again. It worked for me.
