Talking EasyPeasy linux, no glx, glxinfo segfaulting

Here's the more in depth version of said title.

I've got a 945GME Intel embedded graphics "card" in my Asus Eee notebook with EasyPeasy on it.

I was trying to install a program called glx-cairo (a dock with glx) and was told to look at my desktop effects settings...I don't have the ability to turn any effects on. So I looked in synaptic to see if I even had a driver for the 945 enabled, and I did.

Next thing I could think of was to check xorg.conf, but alas, like many things *buntu, its set up differently and there is NO xorg.conf. I install mesa-utils to see whats going on and glxinfo, and glxgears both crash with a segmentation fault.

Now...I know a small notebook with an embedded card isnt going to have epic graphic performance, but this is ridiculous. It came with windows 7 starter on it and everyone knows that Aero or whatever they call that takes a lot more rendering then a small linux docker ever would.

Anyone got some ideas?

I just reinstalled it. It now gives me the option to use effects, but after i select the lowest setting, it messes around a bit then pops up saying it cannot enable desktop effects. So more options, same result.

ATI Cataylst won't start either, says there are either no ATI drivers installed, or they are not in use. Using aticonfig --initial -f returns "no supported adapters found".

lspci gives me the card type, I installed the ati drivers via synaptic, I am unsure as to what is still going wrong, besides the fact Ubuntu doesnt have a xorg.conf.

Yes of course I have looked there, the problem is there is no driver i can find for the 945. In fact, I'm not even sure what series it is. Under embedded there is a "G-series" but it does not have a list of supported devices.

Nvidia is so much better :/

Also. If you got an intel card. You don't need to install drivers. They come preloaded in xorg.

Uhh..if it comes preloaded then why is there no driver found by the ati catalyst center that I installed from synaptic?

Here's lspci output.

It may say there is a driver in use, but this is what the Catalyst center says:

Quote:
There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.

No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig.

Because you don't have an ATI card.

AMD bought ATI a while ago, but neither one of them have anything to do with your Intel based netbook.

Post the output of "dmesg|grep -i intel" and "grep -i intel /var/log/Xorg.0.log"
