Dualboot on Toshiba
Hi there,
I am a Linux half noob, I don't have much experience with Toshiba notebook, but may give it a try, wonder if there is any problem installing Ubuntu dualboot alongside with Win7, is it just as straight forward as with Lenovo ? thanks for your input ! |
Ubuntu's installer should give you a choice to make the machine dual boot. You will need room to make a partition for Ubuntu and a small Swap partition. If there is no unpartitioned space on the drive you will have to move/resize the current partitions to make room for Ubuntu.
Do you know how many partitions are on the drive currently and if there is any room to make new partitions? Regards, S |

A typical basic partition scheme would be 10Gb root (quite generous size), 1/2 size of the RAM for /swap (unless you plan to suspend to disk, in that case swap should be at least the size of your RAM) and the rest /home. |

Hi:
When I shrunk my Windows 7 partition it was pretty easy. Here's a tutorial on how to shrink Windows 7. Dual Booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10 http://www.liberiangeek.net/2012/10/...antal-quetzal/ The documentation for Ubuntu as well- https://help.ubuntu.com/ This page is for 64bit http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/ Take your time and good luck:hattip: |
Thank guys, the only thing I am worry about is the partition usage of Toshiba, it is straight forward with Lenovo Thinkpad, no special re-partitioning needed, the Ubuntu installer handles it properly out of the box, but on HP it is very trouble, due to how the partitions are used, I've to delete one 'unneeded' partition to make room for Ubuntu, but then windows boot up with error, bypass the error will do, the partition I removed is for recovery or drivers I forgot. I've no experience with Toshiba at all, if it is like the Thinkpad (pre-win8) then I will have no problem with it.

No I don't have the Toshiba yet, it is just my plan for the upgrade, the last lot of Win7 models are quite tempting at the price.

If the prices went down and you have the cash I'd jump on that!
My roommate loves his new Toshiba! I'm not a Windows fan but his Toshiba with Windows 7 is really nice I admit-;) |
