DMI String

I installed Slackware 9.1 on my Toshiba M15-s405 notebook computer. A recent Window$ crash left my Windows operating system crippled, and I'd like to do a reinstall.

Of course, my notebook only came with proprietary "recovery" CD's. Unfortunately, when I try to "recover" the system, I get an error saying that this is the "wrong machine"

I talked with tech support, and they said it is a software issue (and thus not covered under warranty), because my DMI string is not matching the DMI string the CD's are looking for (BTW, these CD's have worked on this computer before, but this was before I had installed Linux.)

Anyway, my question is: would repartioning my HD with PartitionMagic, so that I could install Slack, cause a change in my DMI string? I had always thought DMI strings were determined by the presence of a given hardware setup, and would not be affected by partitioning a HD... but now I wonder. If this did cause the problem, would using PM again to partition the drive to 1 drive again fix the string?

I know this isn't _exactly_ a Linux Notebook question, but it is somewhat related, and I thought given the expertise found on these forums someone might know the answer.

Nobody here knows if re-partitioning a HD will change the DMI string?
