If you read the posts here, most of the problems seem to be with RedHat. I don't know if that is because it is used more or if it has problems with laptops.
I installed SuSE 8.2 on my Compaq with no problems. I did have to manually enable acpi, and my Netgear wireless card took a little doing, but otherwise the install went fine.

I have a hp ze4420. RH 9 had lots of problems. I was able to install mandrake 9.1 but could not get acpi to work without rebuilding the kernel. I now installed RH Severn beta and am trouble free so far. ACPI was enabled and works fairly well. I found a lot on info at linux-laptop.net.

My Ze4230 runs Redhat 9 with a rebuilt kernel (for acpi and better video support) perfectly. Pick any distro you like, then recompile and you are off like a prom dress. :-)

No problem. Linux on Laptops is actually highly underrated. I am much happier now that I don't have to use XP on my HP. Mighty decent of HP to make really compatible laptops.
