disabling inbuilt speakers on sony vaio laptop VGN-N220E

hi all,

i have mandriva 2008 installed on this laptop (with gnome), i want to know how i can disable the inbuilt laptop speakers. because, when say i am playing a song, the sound is played on both the inbuilt speakers and on the line out/headphone jack (to which i connect my speakers). on windows, when i plug in the external speakers, the inbuilt speakers stop playing, which is how i want it to be on linux too.

any ideas?

thanks,
guy24x.

i thought i'd permanently disable the inbuilt speakers, but i dont know how to get into this laptop bios. apparently, pressing the "delete" key during bootup doesnt work.

Open the mixer. Click on the speaker icon. Maximize PCM; reduce Master to zero. Control the headphone slide to appropriate level.
