desktop partially fills the screen: Inspiron 1100
 

I installed opensuse 11 on my Inspiron 1100 laptop. The install went fine, but on boot the desktop did not fill the screen. The desktop only fills the upper left of the screen, about 75% of it. Here is a picture to give a better idea:

I checked display settings to see if screen resolution was the problem. I changed the resolution to native (1024*768) and tested the settings. After that the screen went blank, it never came back. I rebooted the laptop and it rebooted back into that blank screen. I ran a repair install which brought me back to where I was before.

Any help with correcting this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
