Dell XPS vs System 76 Gazelle

I'm looking at new laptops, and am currently waffling on whether to get a System 76 Gazelle Professional or Dell XPS.

I only use Linux at home. Obviously the System 76 comes with a linux OS while Dell XPS doesn't. However I've been using my Dell XPS for 4 years, went through my distro-hopping phase and then decided to stick with Slackware.

So I have no problem installing Linux, and I would replace Ubuntu on the System 76 anyway. For a comparable price, the specs are pretty similar between the two - which is kind of surprising, I figured System 76 would offer much better deals.

Dell is a product I've used for over a decade, it's a known quantity, while I've never used System 76 products.

Anyone have advice or experience with one? Maybe there are some considerations I'm not thinking of right now.

What all are your intentions, and what do you overall want to do? What price range do you want to keep within? There are also other brands out there, but it all comes down to you - What you need it for, etc.

Lots of things, mostly normal things everyone else does.

Some LAMP development & some PostgreSQL. I own a forum and manage all the modifications, I've kicked around designing some of my own mods. Some javascript as well.

Some photo editing but nothing at a professional level. My daughter also loves watching videos on my computer for some reason, so a decent graphics card. I'm not a PC gamer, but I hate tearing animations and stuttering videos.

My budget keeps landing around $1100, which is fine. I always like to get a lot of juice and keep my laptop going for at least 4 years.

And as a hobbyist I'm constantly tinkering around & learning new stuff, so some other development may evolve.
