The wlan0 was achieved trough Linuxant. Before that, nothing else showed up. I am not sure about the LSMOD. I cannot spot it in the list of loaded modules.
Now Linuxant has installed the wireless lan device? How does it work? Should I be able to connect to my WLAN now? Do I need to load some program and is it possible to check the signal strength of my wireless network? I got everything I wanted to work in SuSe 9.1 except my Wireless LAN. It would be awesome if I could get it too work because then I can finally show Microsoft my big finger and format C: WINDOWS.
In Fedora, there is a network device tool that let me deactivate the eth0 device and tell it not to start at boot, and to activate the wlan0 device (it was already) and have it start up at each boot. There has to be a similar tool in SuSE. Then, there was another settings area that let me tell it the SSID of my wireless router, encryption on/off, key, etc. That info gets saved in a text config file and used as the default for the card when it boots by a startup script that the tool set up. There must be similar tool in SuSE, and in KDE or Gnome. In Fedora and KDE, there were like 4 or 5 different applets all about the same things, and the trick was to have them all matching, so look at everything and set them all the same way. At least one of them will tell you signal strength, but I think some of the other things like noise and quality are not read correctly by NDISwrapper or Linuxant.
I'm glad the Linuxant worked for you easily, though. You were probably very close to the same thing the other way, but spending the $20 to be done and working fast is very worth it, I think. And you might now be able to email them also for help on the SuSE side of things, if that doesn't clear up for you.
It does not work. I just tried it and the wlan0 shows up in the IWCONFIG. However, I am unable to connect to a network or whatsoever. I also used the 30 day trial, so I have not payed anything as of yet.
I'm trying to make the same thing work. I've gotten to the point where my WLAN-card actually detects my wireless network, but I can't manage to "log-on". I've turned off WEP and everything, but I'm not able to ping the router, nor access the Internet. Are there any procedures that must be performed for this to happen?
What did you try? Were you able to find any set-up type applets in SuSE? The first thing I had to do in Fedora after having the card show up in if- and iwconfig was have a KDE hardware browser internet connection type app set it up by telling it to look for a new device -- wireless at wlan0 in this case. Then after Fedora and KDE knew about the new device, there was another app in network settings that was the one that controlled which device was active and which device to make active at boot, etc. Have you found any apps like these yet?
Ok. I have tried everything and just can't get this stupid wireless lan to work. I am now working with the Linuxant 30-day Trial. This are the ouputs of various comments:

The YaST network device tool also shows a wlan0. It is set to DHCP and received an IP number and Domain from the Wireless Acces Point.
The wlan0 also shows a signal strenght that varies every time I run IWCONFIG. So it seems that at least there is some connection. However, I cannot connect to the internet with any of the applications like Kopete, Firefox, Mozilla etctera.
I am really cannot stand this as it should be working. Anyone have any idea about what's wrong?
Here is a possibility..... I use firestarter as a GUI for the iptables firewall. Initially, it was set to use the wired ethernet card, before I got the wireless up an running. It seems to only allow one card at a time. So I had to tell it that the card that connects to the internet was no longer the eth0 and that it was now the wlan0, and then stuff started going in and out. So, maybe both your firewalls are set to only allow through the ethernet card and/or that MAC and you need to find a way to cut it over to the new one?????
I think it is time to move over to a SuSe support forum because the persons who are trying to help me are using Fedora. I'll let u know if I find out anything new, but I agree, the problem likely is with the fact that I simply do not know which programs do what in my SuSe distribution.
