Dell modem bieng a pain

Ok, now, I'm not new to the Linux thing, but this is the first time I have tried to use Linux near exclusivly. I put RH:FC1 on my Dell Inpiron 8200 and everything worked smootly until I tried my to set up my dail up connection. Now I read all about the winmodem problems with Linux, but I went to Linanxt.com and downloaded the right driver for the modem and followed the intructions. The machine still refuses to dail up. Also, I checked the PCI connections and the listings do list all of the PCI devices I have, including that modem.( AC '97 modem).

If FC1 can detect the modem, then why won't it work. I even tried changing the device alias. Please help me!
