Hello all,
I am very new to Linux. ( Just thought I would get that out there)
I have a Dell Inspiron XPS(Laptop), and I have Fedora Core 2 on it. FC2 seams to work very well with the execption of a few things:
First is the PCMCIA, I have a Linksys G wireless card (WPC54G v2) and I cannot get that working. It dosent even give me the little green power light. I know this has been asked many times, but Ihave rummaged through this and other forums, but I have not gotten a workable solution yet. If I take the card out after linux is booted up and put it back in, there are no beeps, no lights.... nothing. (This is what Iwould REALLY like to get working soon as my main mode of internet connectivity is through Wireless.... which means to get to the web I must resort..... to Windows...... (ps, the card works fin in XP))
Also is the Radeon 9800M graphics card. By reading others posts, I gather that there is no drivers for this, and there is no way to enable 2d or 3d acceleration. Please tell me I am wrong about this (and why doesnt ATI release a driver???)
First I have to mention, i ain't using Fedora, but Debian. So what I have done is for Debian and I'm sure it would be the same. Anyways, firstly u need to enable PCMCIA support on ur Kernel. If its already enable, make sure if its built as a module, the module is loaded.
Then u need the package pcmcia-cs installed on ur system. Now again, on Debian its just a matter of apt-get install pcmcia-cs, but on Fedora, I have no clue. So u'll need find that package and install. Thats pretty much it. When u get pcmcia-cs running it'll start cardmgr and that should recognise ur card.
Well in that case, do u have the right drivers for the card u are using. Obviously its not recognising your card. Make sure in kernel, under Network Device Drivers, Wireless, u have chosen the right chipset support.
