Dell Inspiron E1505: Help configure bootloader

Hi

I bought Dell inspiron E1505 yesterday with following features:

1. 15.4 Inch TrueLife Wide-screenWXGA, for Inspiron 6400/E1505
2. Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950 GM
3. Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini Card (54Mbps), for Inspiron 6400/E1505

I am totally new to linux and I am trying to install mandrake 2005 on this.
Here is wht I do why installing bootloader:

1. Choose 'LILO with graphical menu' under Bootloader to use
Choose '/dev/sda' under Boot device and enable ACPI
2. Then on next screen for Configuration under "hardware" it says : SOund card - Intel
Corporation I/O Hub High Definitioan Audio. When i CLick on Configure, I get the msg- Error:
The "snd-hda-intel" driver for your sound card is unlisted"
3. To configure Graphical display, I Choose "intel 915" under Graphic card and "Dell 1280x1024
Laptop" under Monitor and "1280x1024 16bpp" under Resoultion.

Now when I boot Mandrake and type "startx" , Here is wht I get"

EE Failed to load module "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a"
EE VGA(0): Given depth (16) is not supported by this driver.
EE Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

dear frnds, please help me with this as I am eager to work in Linux.
Thanks.

When I have a similar problem with the display, I edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Change the driver to vesa and reboot. This usually get's me into a graphical desktop. It's a start. You could also try 1024X768 to see what happens.

Wireless Help

I although I do not have experience with dell laptops, I have experience setting up a wireless card on an HP laptop. I also have limited experience with Mandrake (I currently use Arch Linux

The first step is to determine if your wireless card is compatiable with Linux. Google should be your friend. I expect that you will get on the following results:
  1. Yes - you need a linux driver.
  2. Somewhat - you need to emulate the driver
  3. No - try again with another card

If the answer is YES, again use Google to find the driver. Hopefully, you will also find installation directions.

If the answer is SOMEWHAT, you need to use and Windows driver and emulate it. I know for my HP laptop, this was the case and I used ndswrapper. I have also heard of madwifi.

If the answer is NO, I am sorry.

I hope this helps.

By the way, how does your laptop run? I am considering purchasing an E1505. What are the specs for your laptop?

With regards to the wireless card, here is a link. I found it on another tread. I hope it helps. My laptop has not arrive yet, so I do not know if the driver works (I am eagerly awaiting the UPS truck).
