Dell Inspiron 5150 will not install internet connexion using Mandriva 2007

Have successfully installed Linux Mandriva 2007 but not the internet connexion because the package "snd-intel8x0" is missing. Apparently, there are files that can be installed to rectify this omission, but I cannot find them. All suggestions as to how I can overcome this problem would be welcome.

Maybe under these circumstances I should qualify my assertion of a successful installation

Obviously the above comment does not give sufficient information about the problem.

My path to the internet is via analogue dial-up, and I have been using KPPP to configure the connection. The BIOS tells me that the modem name is "Broadcom Polaris" and the system identifies it as BCM v.9.2. The
modem description is "Intel Corp.|8280DB/DBL/DBM(ICH4/ICH4-L?ICH4-M)AC'97 Modem Controller".

On each occasion when I attempt to make the connection after I have configured it, I am told the "modem is busy".

Incidentally, I obtain the same message when I use a similar configuration using Knoppix v.4.

I hope that this additional info will be enough for someone to help me.

No internet connection via the ???, ethernet, modem, Intel Pro Wireless, which one?
If you go to MCC (if I remember correctly, through main menu/system/configuration/configure_your_computer)and in the sound section, change the driver to "i810_audio" from the pop up menu at the bottom called configure sound or similar. Not having the proper audio driver should not affect internet connectivity.
