Here's my config :
Dell inspiron 510m, intel i855GME chipset with on-board graphics, display capable of 1400x1050, linux slackware current, kernel 2.6.4.
Here's my problem :
I can't get 1400x1050. I've finally understood that this was due to the intel i810 drivers calling the BIOS to change the resolution, and to the Dell BIOS not aware of the existence of the 1400x1050 resolution. I'm aware of C. Zietz's 855wrap, but, as the author himself says, it doesn't solve the 1400x1050 problem.
Here are my questions :
1) Has anyone been able to obtain 1400x1050 on a laptop with Intel graphics and a BIOS not aware of this resoltion ?
2) If not, can you tell me how I can at least get 1280x1024 ?
I'd like to know the clock frequencies and modelines to put in my xf86config file...
3) Do you think there's a hope that some day we can get 1400x1050 on this laptop ?
Right now I'm running at 1024x768 and that's not a fully satisfactory solution.
i'm also a dissappointed owner of the Dell 510m laptop.
1) no
2) download the latest bios update (a04) from dell's homepage and update your bios. now run xserver up to the solution of 1280x1024.
3) i really dont know, i'm not sure, but i hope it!
Actually im trying installing a comercial xserver from Xig. On their homepage is written that the solution of 1400x1050 is possible with their commercial driver for our graphical chipset. Has anyone experiences with commercial xservers ?
Ja, mit diesem Patch von Alain Poirier funktionert die native Auflösung 1400x1050 auf dem 510m definitiv. Allerdings muss man diesen Patch jedesmal vorm starten des Xservers ausführen lassen.
Ben, I have a voodoo [voodoopc.com] m355 and am also struggling to get up to 1400x1050. I actually just posted a thread a little while ago about this... since hardly anyone has the same laptop as me, and those that do are mostly gamers (which I am not), I wasn't expecting help on my particular laptop, but just wanted to know if anyone with a 1400x1050 SXGA+ screen could let me know their settings. Here is the link: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=188222
I recieved some help from a very helpful user and managed to get to 1280x1024, but no higher.
Surely there have to be some people on the board with 1400x1050 SXGA+ screens!?!?
I have installed the 855patch on my DELL 510m. It works.
The only problem I have is a 'scrolling' when I set the resolution to 1400 * 1050.
The picture to display seems to big for the screen and when I move the mouse to the right border of the screen, the 'display' scrolls to the left. I would like to have the full picture on my screen with no scrolling, in the same way as it works for Windows XP.
Have you a similar problem?
How did you solve this?
All,
I have a solution to solve the 'scrolling' problem mentioned here above and it works.
I have downloaded a patch and install it ...
it works very well. You can find it here : http://perso.wanadoo.fr/apoirier/
Hope this will help...
