Dell inspiron 5100 ALSA problems
 

I have gentoo installed on my Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop.

I have now been experiencing problems with my sound. ALSA has been emerged and all seems to be well with the documentation, however, when I use mplayer, no sound is emitted. Volume control is normal and being a newb, i can;t work out what is going on.

Any ideas? Has anyone else had this problem.,

check that the mixer has not muted the channels with

#alsamixer

if it has use F1 tou get help

once you have set it to the levels

#alsactl store (#man alsactl for info)

If you get any errors try running alsaconf as root. That will try to configure your sound card, load the appropriate modules and get you ready to run the mixer.
