Smile Dell Inspiron 5000e Display help.

Hello, just a question about a Dell Insprion 5000e Display. I have just in stalled Red Hat 9.0 from Sams Red Hat Linux 9 book, which I had Red Hat 8.0 on, which ran fine. Did a fresh install. Anyways after playing with the XF86Config file, I finally got X to start. But when I try and set the display to a Generic laptop display 1600 x 1200 or Dell 1600 x 1200 laptop display or Dell 1800FP(analog or digital), it won't come up. I have my XF86Config file set to an ati driver and ATI Rage 128 Mobility, under the Section "Device" and the monitor is set to HortzSync to 28-90 & VertRefresh to 50-160. I think, not 100% sure, but the VertRefresh should be set to 60Hz. It runs fine with these setting at 1600 x 1200 with 24bit color. I guess my question is, is this ok and or does anyone have any ideas? Also I am kind of a newbee to the whole world of Linux. But learning. Thank you, David.

I have the same problem. From what I can tell, higher resolutions and 3D acceleration (the bigger issue for me) are not supported. I'm running SuSE 8.2, and maybe an upgrade of the XFree86 version (to 4.3) will help, but haven't had any luck installing that correctly. Any suggestions on getting this monitor/card to work? Thanks!
