Dell Inspiron 4100 Mandrake 9.0 sound problems

Ok. I have a Dell Inspiron 4100 with Mandrake 9.0 installed on it, and I have no sound.
I'm pretty new to linux, so I would GREATLY appreciate any step-by-step process that could get my sound to work.
Thanks ahead of time.

I'm not a mandrake user, but you'll find a lot of inspiration here:

I have an Inspiron 4000, and have had sound working ok both in Redhat (builtin OSS/free drivers) and Gentoo (both OSS/free and ALSA).

hope this helps.
