I'm running Windows XP on a Laptop, Dell Inspirion 8200, P4 1.8GHz, CD-RW/DVD combo drive Toshiba SDR2102 8x, 384 Mb RAM.

I'm trying to install Mandrake Linux 9.2 which is available on 1 DVD disk. The disk turns and make some noise for couple of times and then stops ending with no files displayed on the cd-rom. My cd-rom drive is working fine with other CDs and DVDs, the company I purchased the Linus disk from sent me another DVD disk and still the same proble.

I tried the DVD disk on a disktop and it's working fine but it's not working either on Compaq Laptop.

I tried to install firmware and update the BIOS from Dell web site. All this didn't solve the problem.

Any suggestion please.

I've heard of people having problems getting the DVD's to work on the laptops. My understanding was the package that came with the DVD also comes with 4 or 5 CD's. In case this problem comes up you just use the CD's and forget about the DVD.

Personally I would try to get ahold of the CD's because you could put a lot of time in trying to figure this out and still end up with the same result.
