I'm looking into purchasing a Dell DJ. Has anyone had any sucess at getting it to work w/ linux? If not I won't be purchasing it. Does it just mount like an external drive? Thanks.
a Dell DJ is actually a rebranded Creative Nomad. as such it works fine with gnomad2 or neutrino. I have a Nomad, my wife has a DJ... both run just fine. it won't work with the Creative software on windows because it restricts to known serial numbers etc... but any penny fits the slot on Linux.
Huh, that's not something I knew. I knew creative made the firmware, but that's interesting. In your experiance, which do you prefer, the Nomad or the DJ?
it's libnjb that provides the backend for both programs, so their homepage might give more specific compatability lists.
as for the better one... well i'd say the nomad, mainly as the leather case can stay on all the time, while the DJ ones cover the screen and buttons. The buttons on the Nomad are slightly bizarrely laid out, but as above, it's presumably so there are no buttons on the front. the DJ looks a lot nicer though, which obviously means a lot to many people.
Ok, so here's a question for you: I have a sleek, and it has the bloody PlaysForSure thing written into it's firmware. I need to downgrade it to work, so where do I get a normal firmware?
