Exclamation Dell Cpi laptop and 3com nic woes

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to troubleshoot this problem for about three days now and I really need some help.

My 3Com OfficeConnect 10/100 LAN PC Card with XJACK Connector Model 3CXSH572BT is being detected by Linux Mandrake 10 (download edition) as "Anonymous Memory" and will not load.

I have googled about this issue and have found various postings around the net about people having similar problems but most of those threads peter out with no solution or the situations were only "similar" (i.e. same symptom but different LAN card). I searched the forums here and basically found the same info as on the net at large.

Here is the setup that I am using:

Mandrake Linux 10 download edition
3Com 3CXSH572BT - (yes it is on the compatability lists)
Dell Latitude CPi R Series
128MB RAM

BTW this setup worked with the Mandrake Linux 9.x series (also download editions) but those were with the 2.4 kernel if I remember correctly.

Here is a snippet from my syslog:
Jun 7 09:46:06 localhost pcmcia: Starting PCMCIA services:
Jun 7 09:46:08 localhost pcmcia: cardmgr[671]: watching 2 sockets
Jun 7 09:46:08 localhost cardmgr[671]: watching 2 sockets
