Dell CPi 366 Video/Playback Performance...

I have an older dell laptop I use to play videos...Divx + others. The playback is sluggish. I am using a basic Redhat 9.0 install and MPlayer for playback. When I play video files the CPU is 80+% but the playback is choppy. I am assuming its video speed. Any suggestions?

Thanks...

Did you compile Mplayer from source or did you grab some pre-built packages? I find that on my 366MHz Thinkpad most pre-built packages are extremely sluggish, but if I compile MPlayer from source I get decent performance.

I remember having the PC with RH6.x on it, it worked sweet.
I had +,- the same problems, till I discovered the hdparm command.
type
hdparm -c1 -d1 /dev/hda
that will enable the DMA and set the 32bit on the HDD, you can test the encrease of performace by typing hdparm -tT /dev/hda
You can do this on the CDdrive aswell ....
