Dell C600 + ATI Rage 128 Mobility + Monitor Problem = "No Screen found"
 

Hello!

I'm quite some linux newbe. I have just installed redhat 9 on my C600 Dell
Laptop. It has a ATI rage 128 mobility video card. In the anaconda setup i was asked to config the screen and I choose "Unprobed Monitor" . Now When I try to start X windows it says:
"
(EE) Screen(s) found, but non have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
"

If have been searching the net and it seems like alot of ppl are experiencing this problem but I have found no answer.

Help is very appreciated ;)

I had a simalar problem with a dell Inspiron 8000 and Mandrake 9.1, If you cannot get to a gui for control panel, put disk #1 back in and run update to get you back to where you configure your monitor and choose the dell laptop display and keep trying different resolutions untill you find the one that works,for me it was 1620x1280 , and this is the only one I've been able to use with the ATI Rage 128 mobility. Hope this helps.
