Dell 600m & Mandrake 9.1

I realize this is a larger than normal request but I have several questions and wondering if someone has the answer.

Aside from disabling WEP to initially connect to the AP, must I also enable "broadcast"? I also have the AP configured for "MAC" security of the wireless adapter; could this config issue cause a problem??

My other questions concern the output from;
lspci
lsmod
dmesg
ifconfig

lspci:
1) the card bus bridge; how would I go about installing the drivers for this - should it be possible?
2) still says the broadcom network controller is unknown. Installed driverloader (it may be working correctly - but I haven't been able to use it to connect to the internet) and thought that it would be recognized.

lsmod:
1) driverloader is listed; the documentation says when I run lsmod, driverloader should be listed and it should say "OK". Should I be seeing (OK) in the "tainted column?

dmesg:
1) Shows both (eth0 / eth1).
2) It also shows eth1 receiving a broadcast from x.x.x.1 (my dhcp). Since x.x.x.1 doesn't broadcast, could it be from the AP (x.x.x.x)?

ifconfig:
1) My interest is the statement; eth1:9
a) does eht1:9 indicate this adpt uses channel 9 ??
b) the class B address - where did this come from?? and is this the cause of my inability to network wireless-ly??
**When I look in Mandrake Control Center/Network, it still shows only eth0. Should I also be seeing eth1 ???

Does this file at the bottom of this post look familar to anyone???

IF I saw this file on a windows machine I'd think someone / something got inside. Anyone have any idea what this may be or where it may have come from ???? Found it this evening in the /tmp folder.
