Dell 5150 laptop freezes on Ubuntu after about 20min (every version)

Hi All,

Thanks for reading.

I have the "design flaw by DELL" the 5150 that had the motherboard recall/replacement in the class action lawsuit about 2 years back.

every distro I install freezes after running about 20 minutes. My guess is that is doesent see the swap file correctly? I have 2gb of DDR1 SODIMM ram in there and a 2.66ghz intel single core flex processor.

IDEAS? sure could use some help along with a line or two of code to deposit somewhere to fix it.

(IM NOT A LINUX GURU!)

The other night I had another issue, I had the freeze happen and then my package list became unavailable. I can not seem to get it to reinstall, I have no way to update my machine or search for updates/downloads. Ive, tried the (apt get)routine not working!

thanks again for reading, BTW I'm up to version 7.10 now

Bryan

Temperatures

Have seen problems in some laptops with hard driver overheating. I am not that familiar with ubuntu but am pretty sure they have a temperature monitor somewhere. Might google it and check it out just in case.

Hope this helps
