Deep Cycle for RH9

Is there a deep cycle program for RH9 to help restore some the battery? This old machine has seen better days. Compaq Presario 1655, thanks.

All rechargeable batteries have some upper limit to the number of times they can be recharged, and once you get to the point where a "full charge" provides an unsatisfactory service level (eg, less than 60 minutes) then practically speaking your best bet is to just buy a new battery. Look at cell phones - over time, the amount of charge they can store becomes so short that the phone is almost unusable, but putting in a new battery makes it good as new.

In any case, you can try to breathe new life into an old laptop battery by going through a series of complete charge/discharge cycles. I'm not aware of any software that does this, instead you just need to let the battery charge up, then run it down till you get the final warnings that power is almost out. (I wouldn't recommend letting it run completely out - do an orderly shutdown) To speed up the discharge process, turn the screen brightness to max, play a CD at max volume, plug in a USB device, run a lot of file searches to get that disk drive spinning, etc.

If any improvement is to be had, it should be evident after 3 or 4 such cycles. If little or no improvement is seen after 3 or 4, then I'd consider the battery to be dead, and I'd replace it. Good luck with it
