Debian on a Toshiba Satellite Pro (PS210E): Sound & Wireless issues

Hello there.

I've just install Debian Lenny on a Toshiba Satellite Pro (Model PS210E according to the sticker on the base).

I have a couple of issues with it & my limited experience has failed me. I was wondering if anyone had similar issues or could lend me some advice.

1) Wireless - Wireless card is built in & was working under Windows XP.

After booting into Debian & discovering that wireless was not operational I looked online & assumed the card was an intel one. I installed the Intel wireless WIFI link (http://wiki.debian.org/iwlagn#Lenny), but nothing.

Running iwconfig only gives me the following:

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

irda0 no wireless extensions.

At this point I'm flummoxed. The switch is set to the "on" position, but no light activates.

Is there anything else I can try to detect the wireless card?

Oh what a wally I am.

Indeed I spend 1/2 the night trying to work out why the wireless switch on the side of the machine doesn't even light.

I check BIOS (thanks for the tip) and find nothing but some ethernet settings.

I wait 2 days for my Father-in-Law to come back from holiday & ask him about his wireless, saying I could not get it working under Linux.

I ask him if he had any issues with his wireless card under Windows. He says he never paid for the optional upgrade to fit a PCI wireless card into his laptop.

When I then ask, then how the hell do you use your wireless router, he wanders over to his Laptop bag (the one he didn't want me to take home with me), fishes out a PCMCIA wireless adapter & says "Did you need this at all?"...

>Gnnnnnnnnnn< :)

Please accept my apologies for the daft question & pointless thread...

Sound working fine after apt-getting the Toshiba Fn key package.
