Debian dhcp when boot

I installed hotplug in Debian SID in my laptop. When booting without cable plugin, it can find out the link down. However, it still tries to run the dhclient to bring up the ethernet, and this waste a long time. Is there any way to make it not running the ifup when the cable is disconnected?

Maybe install ifplugd and comment out the 'auto' part in your /etc/network/interfaces' file.

After I installed the ifplugd and commented the eth0 lines in interfaces file, it didn't run the dhcp at all, but just detected the link up or down.
