hey guys iam going to be buying a notebook soon.. and iam just wondering how well does debian detect laptop hardware like wireless, touch pad etc.. ( with the new sarge installer).
I only use Debian on my machines but this is the first notebook i have ever bought so iam wondering about compatibility
I have tried to install Fedora Core 1 & 2 on my Dell C800 laptop. Not a success. SUSE better but not easy on the sound config. Aparantly it is possible but i did not suceed. I have just installed Debian Woody and it seems to be OK at the moment.
DELL should be easy but their site does not have a lot of support for Linux.
debian picked up everything except my wireless card.
ubuntu picked up everything except my wireless card :P
between the two, ubuntu gets the nod over debian for a laptop. it automatically installs and sets up certain laptop related packages. plus it's debian based so you'll have apt-get still.
