CRC Error while uncompressing Linux - Need Help with Fujitsu P1120

I've been waiting long enough now for posting this.

For several days I am trying to install Puppy 4 on my new P1120.
After a long journey through the WWW I stumbled across a site called Lin'n'Win Newb Guide. Following the instructions ended up in a crc error while booting Puppy.

What I'm trying to do:

Since I don't have any optical drives, i.e. none that I get to work, I'm trying to perform a frugal install on my NTSF partition and then install Puppy to the HD, which I have already partitioned and formated, using the universal installer.

My system:

Fujitsu Lifebook P1120
Win XP Home
256 MB SDRAM, 240 are useable
Transmeta Crusoe TM5800 @ 800 MHz
5400 RPM HDD, already partitioned an so on...

What I did:

Following the instruction given on the Lin'n'Win homepage:
downloaded the Puppy 4 image and copied the required files as instructed to my hard drive, downloaded an configured the grub boot loader.

What I get:

At start up I get to select between starting windows and linux and select Linux.
The folowing menu let's me select between Puppy 4 and default startup, i.e. Windows.
Selecting Linux ends up in a CRC error while uncompressing Linux.

Any help is highly appriciated

Welcome to LQ!

Apparently the files that you downloaded have errors. Does the site provide the md5sum for the files to allow you to confirm? When referencing sites please provide the full link even if you have to paste it textually. After a few posts you will be authorized to post links.

It does sound like a file download error.

Hi! Thank you very much for the reply!

In the matter of fact I already solved the problem with the help of people from Puppylinux forum.

In fact you are right, on of the files was corrupt and didn't pass the md5sum check, which I first had to learn how to perform.

Now everything works, Linux boots up with out any problems.

CRC Error - corrupt file. It was that easy...
