Convert from Ubuntu side-by-side to Ubuntu as the main OS with W7 as VirtualBox

Dear Linuxians,
I have been an Ubuntu user (now 12.10) since November. I did a side-by-side install. I only alocated 20G to Ubuntu while left about 100G for my native Windows7 (Home and Business). I am interested now in removing everything from the disk (after backing up of course) and installing Ubuntu as the sole OS and run W7 via Oracle VirtualBox. What are the caveats? For instance, when I bought the laptop I bought a bunch of propietary software (Photoshop, MS Office, Acrobat) but with no CD's. Should I assimilate the loss? Or is there a way of keeping them? What happens with all the Lenovo applications that scan the Laptop? Do I still need Norton antivirus (and if yes, how to install it)?
As you can see is a complex question but hopefully is a situation that someone has come across.
Thank you and be well...

no, linux don't need an antivirus software.

photoshop should be replaced with Gimp
ms office with libre office
pdf files can be created with libre office..

You'd need to keep norton on the windows OS.

Seems to be a double post.

Thank you jefro. Indeed is a double post. Fairly new to forums. I enrolled into askubuntu back in Nov '12. I don't know if there is a way of moving a question from one forum to the other instead of copying and pasting, hence double posting. My apologies and looking forward to continue learning from fellow Linuxians like you.

Are you suggesting to install Norton on the virtualized Windows7? Do I use my current product key to install it virtually?

Be well,

I don't know Oracle Virtual Box well enough, but a while ago a did something similar using KVM:
Setup was a dual-boot with Win7 and CentOS and I made CentOS the default OS in boot manager and setup a KVM VM which had the WIn7 partition assigned. After booting into CentOS the Win7 VM needed a few reboots and all worked ok. Optionally I installed paravirtualised drivers into the Win7 for perfomance reasons (grafics, HDD, Network).
The good thing on this way was that I didn't need to reinstall any OS or application.

btw: I wouldn't install any Norton/Symantec software at all...

Not too many problems in my opinion. Unless you can allot a lot of processor and memory for the VM, heavy software like Photoshop will perform less than optimally. But, Windows itself will work normally enough. Do you have a Windows Disc to install on the VM?

Most of the software is toast if you remove windows from the system. Of course, you can make a recovery DVD which you can use to reinstall windows (and all associated software) on a similar Lenovo hardware (in this case your laptop).

Look for partition Q:\ on your windows installation. If you double click, it will show open asking if you want to create a recovery disc. If I remember correctly, you will need 3 or 4 DVDs.

As far as I know, none of the Lenovo application work on Linux. Unless you use the recovery disc and reinstall, you cannot get those lenovo applications. Also, as far as I know, they cannot work from the Virtual Machine anyway.

I would strongly recommend ditching Norton (it's heavy, in my opinion). Just use MS security essentials on your windows VM.

Hope this answers your questions.
