anyone know how to set touchpad controls or an app to do so? im interested in scrolling and perhaps touchzones, where i can tap corners to perform actions, such as browser back.
I think (but I'm not certain) that these features are not supported universally. What specific laptop (make & model) are you using, and when was it built? -- J.W.

I think it would be covered in the mouse/touchpad section of the Xfree86 or Xorg conf file if I am not mistaken. There are a lot of options available that most people don't ever enable in there for the devices. It's a start.
If you have a plain old PS/2 compatible touchpad it's supported right out of the box with a plain kernel and XFree86/X.org, but if you have a Synaptics or Alps touchpad you may want to download the Synaptics driver package. It's available from freshmeat.net.
