Connect modem to soundcard Inspiron 7500

I found a small program recently called Tuxcall which intercepts a call waiting tone on the phone line to tell you if someone is phoning you when you are online. It needs the modem to be connected to the soundcard and I have no idea how to do this, nor have I been able to find out. Can anyone help please? I have investigated aumix but do not know which line/line1 or whatever to connect to the card or how to make it stay there - it normally reverts to the microphone so every time I cough Tuxcall pops up and tells me I have a phone call! My internet connection is so unreliable and aumix so uncooperative that it has proved quite impossible to run tests on each combination. Mandrake 9.1.

Does no-one know the answer to this?

I presume my winmodem can be connected to the coundcard as when I used Windows I could hear it dialling. I have never been able to do this in Linux - which has not bothered me up to now but I presume it is because the modem is not connected to the soundcard. Back to the beginning. Help someone please, this will be an incredibly useful program if I can get it working.

Surely someone somewhere knows the answer to this. Is it so complex? I would love to be able to use this little program but do not even know where to start thinking about this connect modem to soundcard business. Do others hear dialling tones from their modem? Is it just me who does not? Any ideas at all, anyone?
