Unhappy Configuring Mouse Options on Mandrake Caused Problem in Boot-Up

I installed Mandrake 10.1 on my computer last night and I'm a newbie to Linux in general so I was playing around with it today (getting used to the desktop, etc) and I went to the Configuration options at the bottom of the screen. I clicked on the Mouse options and I changed it from USB to Synaptics TouchPad (since it's a laptop). I didn't realize that it wouldn't allow me to choose that option. Anyways, it let me test the mouse but the mouse went all crazy when I tried to move it to hit Cancel instead. I just turned the computer off and back on again and when it started to boot up it asked me to enter in the localhost and password info which I did but once it gets there, I don't know what to do to make it continue to boot up. Someone told me to type in "startx" which told me the problem (which is that it can't find "synaptics", etc) but I don't know how to configure it back to the original usb selection under this type of command prompt. Can anyone help this Newbie???

If you can't get into X and you can find your way to a counsole, log in as root and try:

typing "mouseconfig". If mandrake has this command you should be able to reconfigure your mouse and then restart X with "startx" or reboot.

Or

Manualy edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to include your mouse protocol and device type. Then "startx" or reboot.

Or

If that does not work you might try to reconfigure X by typing either "xorgcfg" or "xorgconfig" as root.
