Configureing linux on a laptop

I installed redhat 9 on my Toshiba laptop and I am wondering if you can set it up to tell you how much time you have left on the battery. Mabey like modes that you can put the laptop in to save power and things like that.

Sure, there are tons of tools in what your looking for or wanting. Sometimes it depends on what desktop or window manager your using, and what came with whatever distro as well.

Moved to Laptops as its more suitable there. Regards.

Acpi is only partially supported in linux. Do a search in the laptop forum and you will find the answers to most of your questions.

Start by reading this.

http://acpi.sourceforge.net/

There are also some Toshy specific toys you can play with once you get the regular ACPI up and working.

I haven' gotten around to messing with this stuff yet so this is all I can offer. At least this could get you started.

Good Luck
