configure laptop monitor Dell Latitude 120L under RedHat
how should I configure it, while it is detected as an unknown monitor?
I have tried all possible resolution settings and it looks awful anyway. What is the way of configuring it in Linux, can monitor drivers I use under windows be of help? And what do I need to configure my ethernet card? Thanks a lot. |
Try googling "linux monitor setup" or something like it, it might give you some pointers. I haven't had much experience setting up monitors under linux, as it have mostly just worked for me. In any case your windows drivers won't be of much use to you as you can't use them under linux.
As for your ethernet card, try specifying the manufacturer and model. It will help people with more knowlege than I have, to give you more specific help. - Findus |
Maybe something like (as root) from runlevel 3;
system-config-display --reconfig --set-resolution=1200x800 --set-depth=24 But without viable information the command above may not work. Some viable information would be which version of Read Hat are you running. As far as the Ethernet card, since you have not provided any info about this device, I can offer no sugestion. As a suggestion provide the information about your Ethernet card, the output from the typed command /sbin/lspci -v is helpful. Post just the portion about your Ethernet device(s) please. |

and the Linux version I'm running is RedHat 9 Monitor adapter is Intel(R)915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family, and in windows it is has 1280х800 resolution. How can I make Linux understand that my monitor uses that particular adapter? I have tried lot's of configurations but it twinkles anyway. Thanks a lot for your help! |
Install a supported version of Red hat Linux, RHL9 is old outdated and not supported. Fedora is the "free" replacement for the old Red Hat Linux series. CentOS and others are freely available 100% binary 'clones' of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. You would not run Windows 95 on theat laptop why run a dead version of Linux???
http://www.centos.org/ http://fedoraproject.org/ Most likely the command I provided will work just fine with either if it is even needed, the Ethernet interface will work also. |
