Compaq2700 with Linux SuSe 9.0 Pro

Question:

I am new to Linux but excited about getting into it. I have a laptop with winXP Home, Compaq2700 and looking for load SuSe 9.0 Pro on it.

Is there anything that I should know before I attempt to jump into Linux?

Sitting here responding to you on an IBM R40 Thinkpad running Suse 9 Pro.... I'd say - make sure you have a handle on what hardware, i.e. display drivers, connectivity, etc, your laptop has internally.

I haven't had much of a problem, although I confess I still haven't full configured the power management - ACPI.

You might check www.linux-laptop.org for your specific model to see example configs others have done.
