Question Compaq N400C Problems

I am using kanotix/debian. Here are the problems.

-It does not detect the hw ethernet as eth0. PCMCIA wificard is detected as eth0.
-No hibernate. This is the most importent as the battery kindof sucks on here.
-It does not store alsaconf between reboots.
-No battery monitor or place where I can enable hibernate when im notn using kde, im using icewm at the moment but i cant find out what the battery is doing.

Perhaps, a little research is in order.
----------------------------------------------------
First you have to enable hibernate. In Linux it's called "Suspend to Disk"
----------------------------------------------------
Enable battery monitor applet
----------------------------------------------------
sound problem:
$su -
$alsamixer
Configure bars with arrows, enable or disable service with "m" key.
When done ESC
#alsactl store

If you have 5.1 speaker system, be sure that LFE channels bars
are all way down and [off]. LFE channel is to generate 5.1 emulation
matrix on 4 speaker systems.

P.S. KEEP IN MIND THAT SOUND SYSTEM MIGHT NOT WORK
AFTER THAT PROCEDURE. LOGOUT IS NEEDED
-------------------------------------------------------------------
