compaq armada e500

hello, my compaq armada e500 running redhat 8.0 all off a sudden the touch pad goes mad. WHEN i boot linux the cursor stays at the top left hand corner of the screen and it can't move sometimes it moves quickly across the screen and goes back to the corner. I tried using a ps/2 mouse and the same problem. I then decided to reinstall red hat and then everything worked fine again. Can anyone tell me what caused that problem so if it happens again I would know what to do or not too. thankz

I had something like this. I reduced my monitor resolution , put an external mouse (Although i dont know if these are necessary) and manage to reboot the machine with keyboard control.This corrected the problem.
