Hi,
I've a compaq presario 1201z laptop with a dual-boot Mandrake 9.2/Windows XP(SP2) installed on it. I lost the user manual for this laptop. Thus, I cannot confirm whether it will support cardbus adaptors or not. After recently upgrading to Fedora core 3 (just to upgrade to kernel 2.6.x) I've noticed that the laptop has a TI-1410 controller in it.
I bought a firewire/USB2.0 combo pcmcia card. When I insert the card neither Windows XP nor FC3 recognize this card
I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.11 assuming better support for devices and controllers in linux. It did not help either.
My search for TI-1410 and linux has shown many people happy using it. I'm not sure if my laptop cannot support 32-bit cardbus devices. I'm not sure if my laptop supports only 16-bit pcmcia cards

Can someone confirm this?
I know that the pcmcia combo card works by testing it on a sony viao laptop.
FYI, lspci shows a TI-1410 card bus controller.
Thanks in advance for any help. If anyone here has a compaq 120x series laptop and has used a 32-bit cardbus pcmcia card with it, please give me guidance.
Thank you.
