Choosing a laptop

Group, I am looking to get a laptop for school and would like advice about what to get.

My personal requirements are: good Intel processor (no celeron), decent video card (i wanna play Doom3), decent sized hdd and display, and it has to be able to boot windows and linux, preferably Fedora, as thats what I already run and know. I suppose it would help to have a good battery life, weight isnt much of an issue tho, im a big boy ;-)

Anyone know of a laptop that is already offered that will do this, or can somone reccomend a company that will build one reasonably priced?

Thanks,

Scott McNeely

There is a good list in the LQ HCL:

I quite like the asus I bought last year but it's an AMD64 and not intel.

If you search these forums you'll find a lot of recommendations for this same question. There are a lot of good laptops that will meet your criteria. Selecting which one is as much a matter of personal taste and budget as anything.

While I'm currently using a Compaq Armada, my next lappy will likely be a Linux Certified model. www.linuxcertified.com

Personally, I'd recommend an IBM Thinkpad. They are somewhat more expensive, but worth every penny IMO. I've got a T40 that just couldn't be any better -- J.W.

I hadnt thought of checking the HCL, thanx... I was looking at the linux certified LC2520 (the unix powerstation replacement), that looks like its almost exactly what I want, ill look around to see what others have like that...
