Choked Processor?

I just installed Suse 10.1 on my hp zv6000 notebook with an amd athlon64 3200+

When I monitor processor(from Applications->System->Monitor->Processor) it reads that my processor is only at 1000.000 Mhz. Is my computer really running this slow? I would love a way to fix this, thank you in advance for reading this.

Are you running KDE? There is a tray applet that is usually installed and run by default for laptops. ( It's the icon that shows either a plug or a battery. ) Right clicking on it, you can change this behavior. It is normal however, for the processor to use a slower clock speed to increase how long the battery charge will last.

I have my Sempron 3000+ laptop setup to scale up only when needed, it normally runs at 800mhz until it senses that I need more then goes to 1.6 or 1.8Ghz. It really improves battery life and keeps heat down considerably.

In real life you don't really need that much CPU, unless you are compiling or encoding.

Have you done something CPU intensive to see if it scales up like it should?

Most likely you have the powernow-k8 and cpufreq-ondemand modules loaded, Suse probably took care of this for you.
