Unhappy CD Writer (Micro-solutions Backpack) and Laptops

Hi Folks,

I see several links / posts regarding regarding getting the cd writer working but none seem to solve Micro-solutions backpack. Micro-solutions site claims that the support for this model is built in on kernels starting 2.4.4.

Yet, ...

My CD writer is not getting getting recognized on my Presario 1700T laptop on SuSe 9.1. It is a backpack (bantam cd writer, model 1851). I have tried connecting through both parrellel port and PCMCIA card. Both the times the device does not seem to get listed on /dev/hd?.

I see it listed under unrecognized items under the SuSe plugger.

Any idea / help?

Thanks a lot folks.

I've had the same problem with my backpack burner (and via the USB port, as well). I never solved the problem, though. I just put it on the back burner (no pun intended) for the time being. I'm still booting into Windows to burn CDs.
