cant install mdk 9.1||9.2 on my acer travelmate 723TXV?!?

Hello,

I'm having trouble installink MDK on my acer travelmate, I don't know why, but the installation crashes already in the beginning of the installation process and locks the whole computer, I would really like to install linux on my machine, but i'm beginning to wonder if it's even possible. I checked from linux-laptop.net, and they had listed acer travelmate 732 TX to be supposted, but not 723 TXV. I quick research at acersupport showed that these to makes don't have much difference.

So the chrash happens in both MDK 9.1 && 9.2. The comp. boots fine from cd rom and starts the system installation. it collects all the info and let's me pick up the packages, but when install system begins copying and usually it's the glibc package that fails and locks the computer.

As you see i can't get very far with my install :(

I'm running MS98SE/W2K on C: (5gb - FAT32) and have D: (2,5gb FAT) and rest 2,5gb -> 1.8 linux native + 512 swap. I partitioned with MDKs own installer. During install i take my usb mouse off and eject my pcmcia network card.

How can i even install linux?? should i switch distro? is there a network install? is there a problem with my laptop?

Below are my hardware specs

Model ACER Travelmate 723TXV
----
Intel Pentium II 400MHz
Intel 443BX/PIX4E 66 MHz
256MB sDRAM / 10 GB
Video NeoMagic MagicGraph 256AV 2.5 MB (supported by xfree)
Sound NeoMagic 256AV
14.1" TFT 1024x768x64K
1.44MB / 2x DVD-ROM
Modem Lucent 56K
3COM etherlink III LAN PC Card
----

Please help a desperate man.

UPDATE.

To be even more clear, when the system hangs, while copying the glibc package, it seem like the cd-rom drive just suddenly stops spinning..

I just found from google a tactic that i tried, -> F1+linux noapic -> thought it didn't work nor cause no change.

I don't have an LG drive, but an Mitsumi

I've tried installing minimum package vit text only, but nothing works.

..

Do you think i would have better luck with another distro??

again, even even more desperate,
pumpuli
