OK, somehow (and I'm not entirely sure how) you've managed not to install X when you installed Red Hat.
X is needed for *any* graphical interface - KDE, Gnome, whatever, so how you got KDE installed without the installer complaining about the absence of X is a mystery.
2 ways to solve this:
1) install X from the command line, off the RedHat CDs - problematic, as X is a complex system, and you might have to install KDE, as I have doubts that it is installed.
2) re-install RedHat.
If you go for 2, you might want to consider installing Gnome as well, since some programs (quite a few actually) won't run unless it is present.
So, you should select X, KDE and Gnome when you're installing, unless there's a particularly good reason not to.
