Cannot get microphone to work.


Hi,

I'm running Fedora 17. My microphone used to work fine when I installed Fedora about six months ago. I stopped using it for a while, and when I tried using it again, it didn't work.

If I open sound settings and go to Input, I have
Choose A Device For Sound Input:
Internal Audio Analog Stereo.

I didn't have a dropdown for Capture until I upgraded to Fedora 17, and the input level at 100% shows nothing. If I raise the input level to over 100%, then it's at the first line. Whenever I receive some sound from the computer it goes up to the second line. Whenever I talk into the microphone, the levels don't go up. If I record, it won't record anything but static, even if my computer produces sound. I can record from the internal sound from my computer.

Using alsamixer I have Mic, Mic Boost, and a capture with left and right.
If I raise the mic volume I'll hear static but nothing else happens.

Any clues?

I upgraded (without a clean install) to 17 about a week ago, but I've had the problem when using Fedora 16.

Try this:

Create a file called /etc/modprobe.d/mic.conf

Code:
sudo touch /etc/modprobe.d/mic.conf
Then put some options in the file:

sudo /bin/cat options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1 > /etc/modprobe.d/mic.conf
Reload the sound module
