Well perhaps you should use www.google.co.uk/linux (I always suggest this one and it usually works).

top of the list pretty much is http://www.cpqlinux.com/acpi-howto.html

see if that takes you anywhere.

To use linux you have to learn it and its not always easy/fun

Ill look at it some more tonight, once Im back from lab. At least Im finally getting somewhere. Do you know of a good guide to recompiling a kernel? I might need that.

its for slack but there is no all purpose general guideline since people have the boxen set up differently and different distros do things differently.
