Can not find Vert/Horz refresh rates for XF86Config

I am brand new to the Linux world. I just installed Slackware 9.1 on a Dell Latitude C800 laptop. I am configuring X Windows right now and I don't know what I should put for the Vert/Horz refresh rates for my monitor. I've been told to search for system documentation but I can't seem to find anything. If anyone knows "safe" values to use in the configuration that would be great. (I don't want to ruin my monitor with arbitrary values)

Is it an LCD/TFT screen with a resolution of 1024x768? If that's what you have these settings should work:
        HorizSync 31.5 - 57.0
        VertRefresh 50.0 - 90.0

Having a KNOPPIX CD always come in handy !

Just boot from it and it will autodetect everything for you. It can also help with the other hardware you have (sound, video, ... )
