Can I show different output on the laptop screen and the external one?
I have an Acer Aspire 3003 with an external "tv-out" box. I'd like the tv (or screen or whatever) connected to always show desktop 3 (for example) so that I can still be able to view a movie and use the computer. Any ideas?

the tv-out shows whats on the screen (or would be on the screen. to do what your thinking of i think youd need another video card (maybe built in a dock)

So there's no way to tamper with it? I use an external box called "Grand hand view II". I talked to some guy on irc saying it was possible but he dissapeared so I'm asking here... Thanks for your help though.

A quick googling indicated that this laptop has dual display capability which I could not confirm so check your manuals.
This might help:

I do not know how the TV out connects to the display.

if you find out how to do it, would you post a howto for us?

I'm trying to so the same thing.

My laptop's video card (ATI Radeon x600) definately has the ability to display multiple desktops, through both the VGA and S-video port. I've done it in Windows all the time. I'm also still trying to figure this out and will post back here if I have any luck!

If has nvidia graphics, then just use the "twinview" options, and read the "readme" on nvidias linux driver download page. I know ATI has the same options, but I forget the name. Here's the ATI linux driver for laptops FAQ page;
Hope this helps.

Aspire 3003 Tv-Out
Hello people there!

I have an Acer Aspire 3003 WLCi notebook with a single VGA output. It seems that riwaJR has some trick to send this VGA signal to TV through a S-Video/RCA adapter. Is it true? If so, how could I do it? What do I have to buy?

I live in Brazil and saw some guy selling an adaptor (link below, in portuguese, but images are enough to know what I'm talking about) from VGA to S-Video/RCA. He says that the video chipset must have Tv-Out function implemented? Is it right? If so, does my chipset (SiS M760GX) has this function?

I received a message telling me that I can't send link to other sites here by now, but you should search for Mercado Livre at Brazil and then look for the following: adaptador placa video PC VGA in the "O que vocÍ estŠ buscando" field (it means "What are you looking for").

Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from you soon...

I don't know if you have this option or not, but this is how I get different resolutions for the separate monitors.

If you can use a VGA cable to connect your laptop to your TV or monitor, it will allow separate resolutions.

When I use my laptop, it defaults to 1024 x 768. But, when I hook it up to my 50" Widescreen TV it automatically uses 1280 x 700. I don't have to use Twinview either.

Hope this helps.
