can I make a BD-ROM region free for blu ray discs?

I own a Dell Inspiron 15R SE (7520) that comes with a Blu ray rom drive purchased in Brazil (blu ray region A). Is it possible to define it capable of playing region B discs as well?

Thanks in advance

Unlike DVD region codes, Blu-ray region codes are verified only by the player software, not by the optical drive's firmware.

So you can play them depending on software, not hardware.

Thx, H_TeXMeX_H,
This was the reply I was hoping for! :)

I was thinking it was hardware.

You can change the region code for the hardware, but you don't have to as long as the software ignores it.

I had to google a bit for an AACS error message that popped up on VLC.
But after downloading two files to their proper location VLC played my copy of Lord Of The Rings Extended Edition by brother brought me from London last Christmas and the Region B Blu Ray discs played without a glitch!
Again, thank you, H_TeXMeX_H!

The AACS is the DRM, it doesn't have anything to do with the region code.
