they may not have worked it out but i spent a long time with my brother in laws X56 and have established that the problem seems to be with the PCI interrupt controller built in to the machine but with a little work you can get linux installed and working the only thing i have not looked at getting working is the SD Card slot

I Agree. They have not done their journalist jobs that well, the problem is the SD Card reader and the network interface. If u use the 8139too driver it will halt (for me anyway). The 8239cp works just great.
And since i find that all mayor distros loads just about anything it frezzes the install.
I use Gentoo since u got some nice boot loading options like "nodetect" and then you load all modules u know will be working.
I dont recommend Gentoo to people that never used a Linux based OS before unless you read the installations guides on
www.gentoo.org.
Its simple logic for those who has been using linux for a while.
We should make a howto installation guide for diffrent distros. Anyone up for this?
